    Thank you all very much. I think I understand what you are telling me. Hopefully I will get new drive soon and can start backing up. After losing that excel file, I don't think I will forget to. Thanks again!

    No worries. Just a note, I keep all of my personal files, videos, music etc. on an external hard drive. Anything else can simply be copied over when I feel the need. Windows Backup, though 'not simple' is still a useful tool to use on top of copying and pasting important items. It's always good to have a few methods of backing up, just in case one goes wrong.
