Recovery discs instead of vista OS discs, can I still get vista after August 1?

Hello,

I'm using an Asus G50v, and can't wait to try out Windows 7, but I'm a little worried about recovering Vista afterwards. I don't have actual Windows Vista OS discs, to keep costs down on my laptop Asus gave me a set of recovery dvds, which only work MY computer. They restore the computer back to the origional factory settings like using the windows.old file (I think, I've had to wipe the computer once, I pressed f9 during startup and started windows with OEM, although the disc was in the drive, I'm not sure if it was actually used).

I'm worried that If I install Windows 7 some Asus specefic files will be deleted and once August 1 rolls around I won't be able to re-install vista.

I have vista 64 home premium, if that helps.

Maybe you should make a backup image of your hdd, at least that way it would be exactly the way it was b4 7

Ok, the Microsoft website said to do that, but I can't back up my entire computer like that. If I could have some tips on doing that, I would be real thankfull.

I know W7 has the Backup and Restore program and on the left pane it says create a backup image, I don't know if Vista is exactly the same. Check it out.

PS. love the name :p

Yeah, I read about the backup capabilities of Windows Seven. Yes Vista does have a back up and restore utility, but... Its not available on Home Premeium, only enterprise, business and ultimate.

Actually, now that I think about this more, making a backup doesn't matter. When Windows 7 expires, it wont matter if I have a backup of my current Vista configuration, because if I can't reinstall Vista from my recovery dvd, I cant use the backup.

I mean, the question I'm asking is will I be able to use my recovery dvd's to reinstall vista, when my computer does not have vista installed allready. I think I'm going to give Asus a call and ask them the same question.

Allright, I just got off the phone with the Asus Customer support. I was told to press Esc as my computer was booting up, wait for a "Blue" screen and select to boot from my dvd drive.

I feel a little silly about not knowing about this:sarc:, but I should be able to re-install vista this way. The only catch about my recovery discs is that they are liscensed to only work on my specefic computer. So yeah. Now the only business I need to take care of is reclaiming my liscense for Microsoft Office Student.
