Your specs are now OK.

Exactly what does it say on that "application" disk????

You should be able to use the Dell restoration link here, to go back to Vista:

Download this Dell document for full details if you want to go back to Vista:

Documentation

You could just go directly to Windows 7. But I think that if you want to do that you should first MAKE SOME RECOVERY DISKS that would get you back to Vista in an emergency.

The document at the above link should tell you how to make recovery disks.

I can't in good conscience just tell you to jump right into a Windows 7 install, given your situation. Make the recovery disks first.

And then reconsider Vista versus Windows 7.

Dell Application already installed on your computer. For reinstalling cyberlink, powerdvd, dx8.1 software for dvd playback. Use this media to only reinstall software. P/N M102H

If I went back to Vista, what would I have to do to go to Windows 7 then, or are you saying stay with Vista? Vista had all kinds of bugs, that is why I bought windows 7. You couldn't upgrade so it seems to me the tech totally cleared the computer and installed Windows 7, but I could be wrong.

If you went back to Vista you could immediately upgrade to Windows 7 with your Windows 7 OEM disk.

I wouldn't stay with Vista.

But you should retain a way to restore to Vista IF YOU HAVE TO.

Download that document in the "documentation" link above.

Repeat: What does it say exactly on that Dell "application" disk?

Look in your start menu or control panel for something called "Dell Backup and Recovery Manager".

Ignat - I can't do this. I looked at the documentation and it is so complex. If I can't even do the things you are taking me through step by step, I can't do that. I am afraid I would end up with no computer. You don't know how dumb I am when I comes to this stuff. I wish I could have a nice clean computer and then I wouldn't use the registry at all. I can balance a checkbook, but I can't do this.

I do not have anything called Dell Backup and Recovery.
Is there a way I can manually go in and delete programs that might be causing trouble?
