System Image Backup Questions and Cannot be found

Ok, I have read and read and cannot find the answer.

I have a system image that was saved to a maxtor one touch ext HD via USB. This was created using W7 image making system. I am trying to copy the image to my new HDD (internal) 1TB. The problem is when I go to recovery>advanced options>restore from image and reboot, the PC cannot find the image. I can click advanced options and search for a driver and actually see the drive and the image folder/zips but W7 cannot detect it. I have also copied this image to a internall HDD because I thought it may be the USB. I have not changed any BIOS settings as I am using W7 on the 1TB HDD and trying to restore to that from either the D

netouch or the F:internal HDD. Neither times will it find the image.
Questions
1. Do I need to use an alternate program like paragon or clonezilla
2. When the image is saved, it is the name of my pc. Example: F

esktop64-PC. Does it need to be in a folder or the image be a specific name? Ive seen WindowsImageBackup as a possiblity.

What do I need to do? Seems the hangup is that when trying to restore, windows just does not see the image?

I know this has been covered some, but I could not find specific answers

If the image was created with Windows 7 imaging then the image must be called WindowsImageBackup and must be a root folder in the backup drive. You need to boot your PC either from a Windows 7 repair disk or the Install disk and select repair my computer. From there you have the option to restore your computer.

Slopland, You do have show hidden,system files turned on under folders in the control panel?

BTW, windows 7 imaging creates a sub directory in the root of your external disk that has all the image files in it and is not visible if you don't have the options turned on in control panel folder options.

You are another victim of Win7 imaging. For the future, I highly recommend you use free Macrium or free Paragon. Those are a lot more robust and reliable.

I agree, although I still use Windows Imaging as a backstop to Macrium.

FWIW: I use acronis, now up to version 2011 and It works exactly as I expect. Only cost me $25 at the user group store. urg.com. setup for user group members.
I don't have any financial connection. just like good software.

Thanks for the reply. First, I have all hidden folders shown so I can see the image. It is, however, named Desktop64, which is the name of my PC and not windowsimagebackup. So, I will try that.
During the backup process, I have not used my restore disk but will try that. I was using a installed windows 7 and trying to salvage all of my info but at this point, I would have been finished reinstalling everything.

I used clonezilla, but it did not work going from a 250GB to 1TB HD. The 1TB HD showed as a 250 and would not boot completely so not sure what I am doing wrong.
Any ideas?

My client had created the system image on a WD My Passport external hard drive that was password protected. When she booted from a Windows 7 repair disc and chose to Restore System Image it could not be found because there was no way to enter the password.

So I copied the WindowsImageBackup from the password protected external hard drive to one that didn't have a password.

We rebooted from the repair disc and it immediately found the system image.
