Windows 7 system restore gets hung up on the “System Restore is initializing” screen.
I have a HP Media Center PC with Windows 7 Professional, SP1, 32 bit system
I have windows 7 professional and when I have issues with it... the system restore does not work. It has been nonfunctional for a long-long time... I have done all the things I could find from searches of your web site. From disabling my Norton security suite software, disabling Norton firewall, to checking the services that need to run(Volume Shadow Copy), to booting in a safe mode, to booting in a safe mode with a command prompt, I also ran sfs /scannow and it found no errors. I tried deleting all restore points and making new ones, I tried turning system restore off and then back on... I have also tried a clean boot by disabling all “non Microsoft services” via selective startup with no luck… I even tried a hot fix that you offered (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2569601). I have tried a system restore from the windows install CD with no luck. I have also unplugged my usb external hard drive and all other devices to see if they were the problem. A restore of a backup copy of the entire drive is the only way I can get my computer up and running again (It takes forever and means I lost everything after the point of when the backup was done). I also have let system restore run all night thinking maybe it just takes a long time (did not do any good)… I have to power down the pc to get it to stop. I have hours into just trying to get system restore to work on this PC... I have another PC that has windows 7 premium home edition, SP!, 32 bit and the system restore works just fine (I have had to use it and I am familiar with how it works… It finishes in about 15 minutes). I see a lot of other people with the same problem….. What can I do to get system restore to function the way it should? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
