Make Windows Backup use entire drive

    Hi,

I use Windows 7's built in back up feature to backup my libraries and a system image every week. I partitioned my external hard drive so that the backup files are stored seperately from my other files on the drive.

Windows 7 gives me 2 options of how to manage the space. Either 'Only store the most recent backup' or 'Let Windows manage my space (Max 60GB)' (See screenshot)

I would like to know if there is a way to set it to use the full 200GB of the partition. Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance,
    Caleb

    Hello Caleb,

By default, the maximum size will only be up to 30% of the total free space on the HDD or partition that you have the system image saved to. Unfortunately 30% of 200GB is 60GB. The only way to have more space available is to increase the size of the partition.

    Thanks for replying Brink,

I think I'll delete the partition then and save the backups to the single partition, 1TB which means I should get roughly 300GB.

    Thanks again for your help,
    Caleb
