Whs yes I think i got it mixed up, after thinking about it my mbr is located on the active partition. Though not sure how to find it. Not 100% certain on the ins and outs of computers..

Kaktussoft ATI 2011 does not allow you to clone a single partition! :) I made an image backup of one partition not the entire disk. :) Just made the image of the 2nd partition and not the 2nd. But yes you are right that it is sort of cloning but partially...

My system works I was just wondering why that image does not load properly when after I did a proper install and it worked! But problem is solved. I am not wanting to reload the image again, takes too much of my time so sorry. There really is nothing to see but a blue screen, no icons and just a mouse cursor. Go into task manager and very few things are loaded. The start menu is not there so to shut down I need to press ctrl alt and del.

Anyway thanks for your input on the issue...

I suggest guys that you download the trial if you don't have a copy of ATI 2011 and test to see! It will pop up the same! You might have better knowledge of getting around it..

Mark phelp i got 2011 for ATI and it did boot but preparing desktop all the time!! I think if you used Plus then it might worked!

Ive done many (countless) restores with Acronis, and have only had 1 bad image that I can recall.

    Did you verify the Image?
ATI should have been able to verify and let you know if the Image was good or not. Mistakes happen. Ive had a Image fail verification before for whatever reson. Delete, re-image and all was OK.

If not, for future reference, any Partition or disk back up that you will be depending on should always be verified.
If by chance the image is bad, you'll know before you need to use it.

Although I've never had a issue starting a restore from within Windows, it is preferable to restore from the rescue disc.

MBR is located on drive (first sector) to startup. You meant bootsector I assume?
MBR code searches for an active primary partition and starts the bootsector of that partition. Bootsector (win7 bootsector) starts bootmgr from same partition which loads bcd on same partition as configfile
