I don't know of Windows Media Player but many (but may be not all) programs like WinAmp, Say the Time, Tray Commander etc. preserve the settings either in their own folder or somewhere in the Documents library.

You have to search out the settings file and copy it into a drive that won't be affected by reformat. Then after fresh installation all that you have to do is to copy the concerned setting file into its original place.

    I hope this helps.

    thank you,
you're right, but i have a lot of programs,
& it's been more than a year sense i last
formatted, so it's gonna be to much trouble
to copy these programs settings one by one!

    Hi DaYiM

If I would do it, I would do it in the following way.
Make a copy of the entire C:\ drive.
I always use Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier for this.
Then, afterwards, if you use a program,
you can find out where the settings are located, and replaced them with those of the Backup.
Most programs park their settings in the User-profile under AppData\Roaming.
    But sometimes there are exceptions.

    Hope to have helped

    that's a good idea.
    but before i do that,
i heard from someone that there is a way to make
a Registry file for the settings of each program,
& when you want these settings back all you have
to do is open this Registry file & apply it!!!!!!!!!!
    Well this thing work?

    DaYiM,

Do you have problems on your PC at this time ?
because if that's not the case, I would recommend to regularly backup with Macrium Reflect FREE Edition.
With this type of backup software, you can restore your entire disk as it was when you created the backup (Image),
including all the settings you've created on your system.
It's a real lifesaver when your system fails.
Don't forget to create a Rescue-CD, because otherwise, you cannot restore.
If you still have questions about this software, just ask,
there are enough people here who can help you with that.
If you still want to know how to export Registry settings for programs, I can help,
but it's a lot of manual labor.
And as I can deduce from your question, it's probably not what you're looking for.

    Sweet
