Toshiba laptop with home premium windows 7. Signed up for Mozy and it will not back up files. Mozy tech said there were a lot of i/o error 11's and that hard drive was bad. I did some research and tried to do a restore but there were no restore points. Tried to create a restore point but it will not. Tried to do a repair disc but can't. Just says thete is an error and the command not complete. ran sfc /scannow and did not get any errors. Ran chkdsk /r and got zero errors. can someone help me please? otherwise pc seems to be fine. Use it every day for banking, internet, skype, email etc. I have avast but turning it off did not help. Am using spybot to keep register files clean. This is my first post. Thanks

Go to control panel/system/system protection and poke the configure button. How much, if any, space is shown under "disk space usage"? See picture from my system below.

Avoid registry cleaners.

What are you trying to back up?

D drive?

C drive?

Personal files only?

Something else?

Well, System Restore won't back up the C drive. There are a number of posts on this forum about System Restore not running properly, but I have not rooted through them. So, System Restore is irrelevant for what you are trying to do.

I assume your personal data (pictures, etc) are also on the C drive?

The only way to back up the C drive as a whole is through an image process.

Windows Backup and Restore does that, as do Macrium Reflect, Acronis, EaseUS, and Paragon applications, among others. Have you tried and failed with any of them??

You can backup the c drive on an external drive or on dvd's using the windows 7 backup under the control panel. I have done this this on my Acer windows 7 machine and it works. And it is the whole image. But try it on this Toshiba satellite and you get and error....and it will not create restore points. And it won't write any backup data to Mozy. Otherwise it seems to be completely healthy.

The error says to check the vss and spp errors. Don't know where to do that.

Yep. But your first post mentioned restore points, which are available only in System Restore, which is completely unrelated to Windows Backup and has nothing to do with making an image or restoring a C drive.

Back to making an image. I know a bit about Windows Backup (imaging), but like many on this forum have given up on it and instead use other applications for imaging purposes.

I can't help you with Windows Backup imaging. It's a world unto itself, non-intuitive, cranky, etc. That's why I gave up on it.

I'd seriously advise you to not put images on a set of DVDs. They are much more prone to issues. Use a hard drive if at all possible.

OK let me restate my problems......backup image won't work and restore point wont work and mozy wont work . It seems that the shadow copy application gets partway through it's work then fails. If you need file dumps or whatever I need to be instructed as to how to do that. Thanks for your help.
