I can't turn on system recovery

Today i tried to use Windows Anytime Upgrade but after checking
my code it said that i need to turn on system recovery
    i go to:
    computer>properties>system protection
and then i get an error saying run system recovery again (0X81000203)
then were it says available disks it says searching forever...
this is really annoying not only because i cant use Anytime Upgrade
but also because system recovery is very good if my system
has tons of crashes and other problems
Any help would be appreciated :)

    Hello Kevin

Have you tried the different options for turning it on outlined here - System Restore - Enable or Disable
Also run this - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to make sure the are no system errors

Also look through this see if it helps - System Restore Error Code: 0x81000203 - Microsoft Answers

Just a general question to those more knowledgeable than me. Is it possible to use Windows Anytime Upgrade to go from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version or does it have to be a clean install?

    Hi
to upgrade to any 64 bit version of windows from a 32 bit OS you have to do a clean install!
    Good Luck
