Thanks Burdus, yes i did have Acronis True Image previously installed and all i had to do to fix it was to use the acronis 2012 removal tool here
http://download.acronis.com/ATIH_CleanUp_2012.exe
and then changed the value of these 2 keys as described in the wilders security article you linked
