Scheduled backups supposedly occur nightly but no new files are there

I've set my computer to backup overnight to my external hard drive, and the log says that the backups are occurring. However, when I look for the files I created the day before, they're not there. In fact, there are no new files on my Morespace drive for almost a year. I've looked at my settings, and they seem to be fine. Any advice for me? I'm not particularly savvy, so maybe I'm missing something obvious. Thanks.

I'm guessing you are using Windows Backup, rather than a third party application?

It works if you want to take the time to learn it and its nuances, but it's a bit cranky and non-intuitive.

If you are just trying to backup your personal data, you might be better of doing it with the mouse temporarily---or use a more user-friendly application.

If you are trying to backup Windows AND your data, another decent choice is Macrium Reflect Free Edition. It's more easily understood.

If you are trying to backup just your data, not Windows, consider something like Synctoy or Karen's Replicator, both free downloads.

Yes, I'm using Windows Backup. It seemed to be working for a while, but quit at some point. I appreciate your suggestions and will try them in succession. Wish me luck!

    Welcome
I have to go along with the Macrium suggestion. I have been using a computer for years. Just a few days ago, I was installing the upadates and my computer froze. I had no choice but to turn it off. Well on boot, I had an expensive paper weight. I could only bring up the Dell name, and the OS could not be found.
Do your self a favor back up to an external hard drive. No need to do it every night, just with major changes. Then you will be all set.

I'm backing up on Hammer Morespace, and just backing up personal word files and photos. Thanks.

If you are just backing up personal files as opposed to Windows itself, I would NOT use Macrium or any imaging program at all.

Just use a traditional "file by file" backup application, such as Synctoy, Karen's Replicator, GFI Backup Home Edition, or Folderclone.

Imaging adds a layer of complexity that I would not want between me and my data backup. Imaging can fail outright. Keep it as simple as possible if you don't need to backup Windows itself.

Windows has its own native back up, too Back up and Restore.

I really appreciate the suggestions, which I'll try. I'm hoping one of them will work, so will consider my problem solved for now.
