Allocating More Disc Space To A Restore Point Problem

    Hello,

Thought I would increase the amount of disc space allocated to a Restore Point.

When I try to move the slider over (it's now at the extreme left end), I get the following two messages shown below:

Any idea what they mean, and why it won't allow me too increase ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    From OP: Oops

    Hi,

Just noticed that apparently it is not possible to add a clip from
    the Snipping Tool to post.

Here's some of the text, then, in the error msgs:

Could not apply the setting for the following reason

The file name, directory name, Volume label Syntax, is incorrect (0X8007007B)

    and,

There was an unexpected error in the property page
    -same text as above-
Please close the property page and try again

    Hi,

If you haven't already seen this, perhaps it will offer some guidance on your problem..

Solving the Issue: The Filename, Directory Name, or Volume Label Syntax is Incorrect (0x8007007B) | The Nubby Admin

    And found this on Technet..

    System Restore

System Restore fails with the following error:

There was an unexpected error. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect (0x8007007B). System Restore will now close.

This error is caused by faulty imaging by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that results in the presence of an invalid volume. To see if this is the problem, go to System in Control Panel and open System Protection. There will be two volumes shown, one of which is selected and named “Missing.” Selecting C:\ and deselecting “Missing” solves the problem.

From OP: What Is "HP (C:) Missing" ?

    Hello,

I took a look, and see:

    HP (C:) System

    but also HP (C:) Missing.

Just curious: what is this C: Missing about ?
    (my PC is an HP)

    Both are ON for Protection.
Haven't changed anything yet, as I thought I would first ask about
what HP (C:) Missing is ?

    Thanks for all the help,

    Bob

The missing volume is the one that got messed up in the system imaging by the factory, according the info already posted. No harm will be done in un-checking it, as recommended.

Yup, about what was expected. Questionable imaging practices at the factory. Turn of protection on the Missing volume, and leave it on only for the C: partition and you should be good to go.
