I was pressed for time and only burned a 'repair' disc,
That did not work,

I was ale to get to command prompt and try your suggestion, but that did not work either...

Looking to download the OS next, but will not have time until Tuesday pm...

If that doesn't work then off to the repair shop

what did sfc/scannow come up with?
And you have told that tried with "repair disk", is it a repair disk or windows installation dvd?

and then, what I suggest you was to run a repair installation with a installation dvd. not again restore. and try again with recovery environment. its worth a shot.

here's the steps,

*use Advanced Boot Options to select repair.

*This will get you into the System Recovery Options where you can choose system restore.

*Use OPTION TWO of System Restore

and if that didnt help,

run startup repair from recovery enviorenment Startup Repair
and then repair install windows with installation dvd. Repair Install. dont mind that it says you have to log in to windows. it does work with your retail installation dvd. just select install nw and then upgrade. ( note: careful to download or find a retail disk. OEM disks do not include repair functions.

and as a another shot, try recovery image as you have your image dvds before go for a repair installation. here's a guide System Image Recovery. in your case, you should use 3. From the System Recovery Options Screen at Boot.

hope this helps. this is not something you should go for a repair shop as a my opinion. either any of these didnt work, you can do a clean installation yourself. and also if you have any data you wanna save from C:, you can make a free macrium rescue cd/usb with help of a friend's computer and make a image of the drive C: with it and save it to D:. then later you can browse thae image with macrium and extract your data. and I can't remember that free version of macrium offers to browse your disk with the rescue media, if so you can copy your data from that too. its your choice lyman. thanks for posting back.

Was this user ever able to get back on the computer?

My system has done the exact same thing. It does not boot into safe mode or any other mode on the computer. System Restore from the Partition Drive results in an error as well as Restore to factory from the Factory CD's (I ordered them once this issue arose). Still unable to load into anything. Resetting the BIOS does nothing although the system date, time, etc. are all accurate even with the OS not loading. A call to the company (HP) stated that it was a software problem and I didn't buy the extended warranty (one month out of factor warranty as well ). But at this point I am trying to get it to run. I have my data on CD's but for an exactly one year old system to just go out ... with no evidence of an issue prior to this is really a touch much and I want it back .

Anyone have ideas?
