Windows 7: How to safely recover Windosws 7 without losing Data on the D Drive ?

Hey everyone,

I have a Samsung QX410 with Windows 7, 64 bit. When i bought it, i had made a set of 4 recovery disks (i dont really know how they work, or what they do). A few days back my laptop slid and fell down, and since then i have had this trouble. My windows is not loading up.....it takes me to a black screen.

Can anyone help me as to how i recover the windows using those CDs ?? And also if i use them, does that save my data on D drive or not ??? I dont really have any data that i want to save on my C drive.

What other options do i have to save my data ?

According to this you can carry out a basic restore that preserves your personal data, but as ever, you really need to back up anything you don't want to lose.

If the system restore won't work, I suppose it's quite possible you may have done some physical damage when you dropped the laptop.

recovery wouldn't touch D: drive unless you have included it on the image which is I highly doubt that you don't when you make an image with windows recovery.

just put the first disk inside the tray and boot with it( you should have set the dvd rom as your first boot device) to recovery manager and follow on screen instructions. they are pretty much simple to follow and you'll be good if your disks are good and wish you hadn't damaged HDD when you drop it.. good luck and welcome to sevenforums!

I tried the basic restore option, which is there in the link you just posted, it is giving me an error. Am going to try using the recovery disks now..........before i wasnt sure if it would keep the D drive data or not. Hopefully it works.

Not a problem suspect 008, better to get advice from two sources rather than none.
