System Restore from a previous backup

    Hello folks,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. In my experience, Toshiba has one of the worst system recovery modules which takes ages to restore. To avoid this issue, I restored my machine to factory settings, deleted crapware, updated and backed up using the tool built into Windows 7.

Now after a while, I successfully messed up the system that it takes 5 minutes to boot and is as slow as a turtle. I am considering system restore using the backup I made on external HDD.

My question is, if I restore using this backup,
    - Will it delete ALL the data put on this machine AFTER the backup was made?
    - Will it completely restore SYSTEM to the backup settings? i.e. deleting the folders and registry entries added by the programs installed?

    Thanks in advance.

(P.S. - I am asking this question because I restored system to a previous date using a 'restore point' but it left all the (emptied) folders made by the installed programs, don't know about registry. In short, it wasn't useful at all.)

Hi fuzzychicken and welcome to Seven Forums.

All the data on the disk you imaged will be set back to the time you made the image. If you need to save any of it you will have to copy it somewhere off the disk first. This will not work for any programs you have installed since the image. You will need to install them again.

    Thanks kado,
Its fine with me, what is more important for me is deleting all folders and registry entries made by the installed programs. Will it do that?

Yes it completely replaces everything on the disk with what you originally imaged.
