Numerous errors. Windows 7 will not load recovery from disc.

I'm assuming you tried booting into safe mode and that didn't work? Safe mode loads very few drivers, so if that won't boot, it means a fundamental Windows system file is corrupted (thus the digital signature error you report). Which one? Well, there's the nub, eh? You tried booting into the DVD and selecting "Repair"?

There's more hackish ways of handling the situation, but even on Linux systems, where the package manager will tell you which OS file is corrupt and how to un-corrupt it (by installing the original package on top of it) and where I know how things work on a fundamental basis (I design Linux distributions for a living, duh), often once I get a live CD loaded and the filesystem checked and mounted, I copy the data I'm interested in to another drive and reinstall then restore (well, actually, I don't restore, since I always partition my drives as a system partition and a data partition and an install never touches the data partition, but I copy the data elsewhere anyhow before I do the re-install). Past a certain point it is more effort to fix the install than it is to re-install.

So anyhow, before doing something drastic like re-installing, check the SMART data on the drive first, the drive may need to be replaced. I just checked SpeedFan with an external USB hard drive and it *will* read the SMART data on that hard drive, so you can use that external USB case and check the drive using SpeedFan on your laptop. If you see any red ovals next to critical things like "Reallocated Sector Count", you probably should just reinstall onto a new drive then copy your files back over.

Yes it will not boot into safe mode and the DVD will not boot at all. When I load from DVD when prompted to hit any key to do so it just cycles a restart and will do this over and over and over. I ran the SMART check while the hard drive was still in the computer and it passed on all tests. Should I still pull it and run the SMART data through the external case? Is there any way I could pull that hard drive and load the missing file or remove the corrupt file through the external hard drive. With a good detailed set of instructions I am confident enough to try anything. The drive has three partitions.

You appear to be able to burn CD's on your other laptop, right? If so, try going to fedoraproject.org and getting their live CD, and seeing if the computer will boot that. If the computer *won't* boot that, then the computer itself is likely toast -- I've never run into an actual functioning computer that wouldn't boot the latest Fedora live CD. I've used that CD to do a number of rescue functions, though not as easily as a CD that's designed for the purpose, where the "purpose-built" rescue disk simply wouldn't boot because the hardware was too new and it didn't have the drivers for it. For example, I accidentally set my password to something I mistyped *twice* in a row on one of my computers. No problem, there's a tool you can 'yum install' once booted into the live CD to fix that :).

If the disk drive passed SMART while still plugged in, then it'll pass SMART now. So likely not a problem with the disk drive itself.

Yes I can burn CDs off my other laptop. At work now so will have to wait until this evening to give it a try. All i look for at fedoraproject.org is "live CD" or is there something more specific than that. I am really interested in knowing how to fix the files within but this is something I have not done yet and appreciate as much information on the fix as possible!

Just wondering though if you think this could be a motherboard issue or an issue with any other hardware. I have heard from someone else who does do work on computers (without him seeing the computer itself) that it is either RAM, power supply or motherboard. I tend to disagree with that but I can admit I don't know everything and always open to ideas and opens! In the past I have ran into problems with all three and remember that RAM and I believe power supply gave me beep codes. Or maybe it was motherboard and RAM. Either way I have replaced all of those components on other systems and this just does not seem to be one of those issues. Someone else suggested the video card was bad. This system only has a VGA hookup and not through a video card but through the motherboard itself.
Just thought I would bounce it off of someone else to get their opinion!

Yes, RAM could definitely be an issue. If the Fedora live CD will not boot, that is in fact the first thing I would suggest. Note that RAM issues don't always manifest as beep codes, they can also manifest as random corruption. The contents of the disk may very well be fine, but get corrupted when read into memory.

But if the Fedora live CD will boot, you can run the memtest function from the Fedora boot menu and verify whether the memory is good or not.

So I made the Fedora Live disc. All that comes up now is "Fedora 17" written across the screen. Something just seems to stop it from going forward as this is pretty much what happened when I tried using the Windows Defender Offline. Could it be a video issue?? So stumped right now. I pulled ram one at a time while I was making the Fedora disc with the same results as before, restarting over and over again. I have a hard time excepting that it is toast. Any thing else I could try??
