OK Wolfgang. If you want to add UBCD it won't work the way YUMI suggests. I have a workaround which I will share if you need it.

Just another thought. If people are facing a dead system from which they want to recover their data, the Macrium WinPE CD may be one tool to do that. Just use the WinPE CD to image the partition where the data resides. That may be easier for most users than working with a live Linux CD like Puppy.

The Macrium image can then be mounted on any other system (or a reinstalled system on the same PC) to save the data.

A big Thank You to whs!

Using the Linux boot disk on my HP, I was not able to open the Macrium image folder on my external drive.

Now I can dump EaseUS Todo and not worry about Windows images being successful.

    Hello whs.

I have some questions for you since you seem to be expert on this image thingy.

    1. I just have one internal drive. So i used a partition to store the image created by macrium free. I then made a linux recovery PE CD to try restore from the image. Only to find that i cant go beyond the select target disk phase in the linux environment of boot cd. Is there no way around it using just one local internal disk and just the linux PE CD?

    2. So i thought of creating a WinPE disc instead, which lead me here. I downloaded the iso file from the link you shared here. (thanks by the way:)) Then i tried to create the bootable rescue disc and chose winPE from the macrium free program interface (installed version 5.0 build 4522). Now when i clicked continue choosing the already downloaded option, i am getting an error which says

"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the packaage exist and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"

What seems to be wrong here? Is it because my copy of macrium free is of a different build?

I burned the downloaded file directly onto a cd and i found that i can boot from it but i didn't try restoring from it yet since i saw that a lot of drivers were missing. I used to use norton ghost before, and there it had a option to include drivers while burning a rescue cd. Will just the downloaded iso image suffice for a complete restore without any altercations?

    Regards..

    Hi capdileo
I have downloaded the .ISO and burn it to a CD then making an image with then restoring even with those missing drivers and all went well for me. One point to consider: Try to make an image on an external drive,so if you incouter a problem with your OS,you can not boot with the image partition for a restore.
    Good luck

    Hello Hanna1

I will consider getting an external hdd just for the backups.
But in the meantime, i need to restore from the image stored on my partition. I am guessing its not possible to run it using the linux pe cd from just the internal drive then is it?
