Hello, so I have a slight problem with my Windows 7 after restoring it to factory configurations.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04, the installation smooth as butter, but after a few days of usage, the GRUB system screwed up. After a LOT of problems I managed to restore my Laptop to its default configuration.
Then, I tried to restore my personal files with the DVDs I made, but when the manager finished, it only showed a folder with all my files in it! And it didn't give me any option to restore these files or something!
Any clues of how to restore my data?
How did GRUB "screw up"? Need more info on that. Also, how did you restore your data from backup? You used Window backup? I always just copy data to a flash drive or DVD. Please describe the situation more completely.
All right, sorry for the lack of information.
I don't know exactly what happened to GRUB, but when I turned on my laptop, it immediatly booted to a screen that said "GRUB loading_" and stayed like that.
So, I had to restore my system to its factory configurations by using the Recovery DVD I had made, it asked me if I wanted to make a backup of my files and folders (or something like that) and I hit yes; then, it took about 3 hours and 9 DVDs, but the backup finally finished.
THEN, GRUB didn't allow the Recovery Manager to reboot in order to install the drivers, so I had to boot from the Ubuntu live CD, reinstall GRUB, uninstall Ubuntu, format
COMPLETELY my hard drive and use (again) the Recovery DVD to return to factory settings.
When I had done that, everything went fine, it asked me to configure my laptop (like the first time you turn it on), create an user, etc.
Then, I opened my user account and inserted the first of the 9 backup DVDs
(The ones containing my personal files) and opened a folder named with the date and time I made the DVDs, which contained several files with the extension
.wim, an
.ini file called RecoveryMgr, and an
.exe with the same name.
I started the exe, and it opened a window that said "This program will help you restore the files you previously backed up", I hit next, and there was another message, asking "What type of files do you want to restore", with several file types, and, next to them, a box which I could check or uncheck. Finally it told me that the files would be restored to the next location:
C:\System Recovery Files, and that a link would be created in my desktop.
I hit continue, and it started to extract the files to the location, asking me to insert Recovery Disc 2, 3, 4, etc.
When it finished, I went to the directory, and there was a copy of the
COMPLETE disc
C:\, including user folders, programs, etc.
I tried copying to my hard drive, buteven after several reboots, the Users don't appear and neither do the programs, nor the files; it was like I have never copied them!
Is this enough info?
