Windows 7: choosing between the free Macrium and Genie timeline 2.1 pro

choosing between the free Macrium and Genie timeline 2.1 pro

I am trying to make my initial image of a fresh install. I read the sticky, and am currently downloading the rather large (and slow!) 1.37 GB file Macrium requires.

I happen to have a copy of Genie Timeline 2.1 Pro, but have not used it. Does it require a windows install before restoring the drive, or does it provide a rescue disk to boot to?

Which of the two is recommended? I have my data on a raid 5 volume, so I am more interested in an easy clean Windows reimaging should I need to, so as to save time when the need arises.

Thanks!

You dont need anything besides the macrium installer, the PE files are needed to create a windows based rescue disk, but the linux based one, should be enough for most scenarios.

Hello
You don't need to download WINPE for macrium, there is a thread that have a stripped version of the said download that you can benefit of and it's working perfectly:

Macrium WinPE .iso download

Good luck
