Just one reminder about turning System Protection off and on. Turning off System Protection will delete all restore points for the hard drive. Do you have any saved restore points that go back prior to when the imaging problem first appeared? If yes, you may want to try restoring your machine on the off chance the imaging problem started after
the restore point was created.
Create a new restore point. Once that's done, try to restore your computer to the earliest restore point you have. Once the restore finishes, make sure to run Windows Updates, update your antivirus, etc and see if you can create a system image. If it works, problem solved. If it doesn't, use that newest restore point and you're no worse off than you were. Just a thought if you don't mind the extra work.
