Windows 7 backup and restore has stopped working

I following a seminar on A+ certification. I checked my system to see backup and restore options but the window was blank. I checked services and Windows backup was disabled. I set it to Automatic and started the service. Now I can see backup/restore. Is there a reason it was disabled? Virus...

I used Windows Backup regularly for a while, then started using SyncToy. I decided to bring my Windows Backup up to date, but when I click the "Backup Now" button, the cursor just circles for a second or two, then nothing happens. No error message, no nothing. Any ideas?
