You really need at leqast Nero 9 for Win7. Nero 10 is a bit faster though, at least was for me.
my case was exactly inverse, nero 10 was a nightmare, nero 9 was fast, but who works as i want was nero 8, i snot officially supported for win7 but... what can i say?.... it did it

I prefer to use a NAS (Network Attached Storage device), basicly an external hard drive conntected via your local network. I got a nice 2TB Western Digital at a nice price that supports 10/100/1000 which makes doing a 300GB image file a dream.
For software I use Acronis, it's not without problems but as Windows 7 Home (all flavors) does not support network drives it was my best option (when you take into account the other things it can do). If all you are looking for is a simple backup you can try GFIBack (www.gfi.com). It works quite well and it's free. You may want to look at your anti-virus software; some (such as Avira) provide backup services within the AV software.
    m.. that was new!
(in fact, that was what made me try the comodo backup, since i already had comodo firewall (and it is fantastic)

    but... avira?

I have Avira Internet Security 2012 and yes, it has backup capability, but as I said so do several other AV software packages.
