Windows 7: New external HD gives me device I/O error when backing up.

New external HD gives me device I/O error when backing up.

Just got a new external HD (Seagate FreAgent Goflex 3T) because my old 750GB HD got too small. I tried running backup for the first time on the new drive but after about 25% completion, the backup stops and gives a divice I/O error. I'm using Windows 7 backup utility. I had no issues with my old HD. I know the new drive is working because I uploaded 20GB of music to it and it appears to read and wright files just fine. Here's what I get;
