Acronis does not see my C: drive

Hi all,

I a new HP Pavilion Slimline x64, with Win7 Ultimate x64. I installed Acronis 11.0 TI on it to create a backup of my computer to store on my external hardrive.

However, when I go to select the drive to backup, only the external drive, the G: drive, shows up in the list to select. I can see the C: drive from my other computers in my home network, and from the slimline PC, but, Acronis does not see it. Thus, I am unable to create the backup. The C: drive is a Hatachi HS72101CLA630 SATA Disk Drive

I have been to the Acronis forum and tried the suggestions there to uninstall, reinstall Acronis, and still the C: drive does not show up.

I have used this same Acronis on all my other computers to create backups and never had any problem, even with others that have the Win7 x64 as well.

So I am wondering if anyone here has ever used Acronis and if so, ever had a problem with it not seeing the C: drive to select as the source drive?

I still run the Arcronit T.I. Home 2010 version and have never run into anything like that at all. But this is also on a custom build not any OEM system where both C and the 100mb before the latest clean install of 7 was always seen.

The uninstall and second install would have been the first advice you would see just about anywhere to fix or rule out any glitch with the initial installation of the program. While you over at their forums there you apparently missed the 2009 thread found about the version you have simply being outdated and no longer supported. You may want to consider replacing the older version you have there with a newer updated Home 2012 now seen rather then fight with an older version that will likely continue to see problems return. Complete hard disk recovery solution, backup, drive copy, clone and image computer software

The Home 2010 in use here was spotted in a Staples and bought one day when looking to see what they had for softwares where I simply grabbed it up(and now glad I did). It will compress images much smaller then seen with the built-in backup option in 7 when comparing how much drive space is used while both that and Acronis have both been found reliable at restoring any images made.

I kind of tend to believe the answer seen on the thread there was made by someone at Acronis and the older needs to be replaced by something newer.

Hi Night Hawk, no actually I did see that the TI 10.0 was no longer supported, but, I have the TI 11.0 not the 10.0 which is still supported, and many of the others on that forum are still using that version as well on their Win7 x64 OS's. However, I still have the 10.0, and like you, I tend to like it better than the newer version. But, it won't work with the Win7 x64.

This machine is the first OEM computer that I have had in over 15 years, the others are all home built. But, I bought this machine for my granddaughter, however, she preferred my Netbook, so I now have the desktop.

I also saw that other thread, but, it didn't really offer much more than what the others suggested.

I just thought that I'd check in with the Win7 group and see if perhaps there was someone that had a similar issue that could offer some information.

The thread there was referring to TI 11 not 10. Apparently they were having problems with it and discontinued it never releasing any fix for the problems it was having. That was from one of their engineers mentioning this in the response seen there.

The 2010 version I bought on the other hand has been reliable for the most and always plainly sees all drives. This was the first version of Acronis put to use here however. Before that I had looked over some other programs that didn't quite measure up when looking back at those.

The TI 11.0 I am using has been used on all my other 5 machines for some time, ranging from XP Pro x32, Vista Ultimate x32 to Win7 Ultimate x32 and x64, and I dual boot on two of them with Vista and Win7 x64. And never once have I had any problems with it seeing the C: drive.

There is nothing that I am aware of with this new PC that would prevent, or should prevent, the c: drive from being seen by Acronis. And I don't really see that buying a newer version would make a difference. Those at the Acronis forum said they are using the same TI 11.0 on their own Win7 x64 computers and not having any problems, so that kind of lets me know that even a newer version may not make a difference.

There are other software that can do backups and restores. Even Windows Vista and 7 have built in backups. But, Acronis has always been the choice here, as it is so simple and easy to use for backups and restores and doesn't use a lot of resources.

Well....I have learned in life that there are some things that just never seem to have an answer, and maybe this is one of them.

Well generally Acronis has been one of the highest rated imaging wares. One thing to ask here or something you should consider is any change of drive modes having an effect.

I have to wonder if you had gone from ide to AHCI before running into this since TI has been working all along for apparently several years without issues. You have to look at what is possibly being done differently on the present system you didn't do on any other?

You certainly have to look at drives, how they were set up, and any changes made since Windows first went on as well any change of brand or type of drives like going from sata to SSD? There's always a reason why something won't work on one build while it always does on any other!

No....change in the drives. I got the machine new, and the only thing I did was an Anytime Update from the Win7 x64 Home Premium to the Win7 Ultimate x64. And I did that because the C: drive didn't show up with the HP either. So, that is not really a play I don't think.

All cables and connections are good. If there was a hardware problem I don't think the drive would be seen from the other machines as well, but, since that is not the case, I am not sure that is the problem either.

And I have downloaded a clean copy of the build from the Acronis site online and installed it, so I am pretty sure that the quality of the software itself is not the problem.

For whatever reason, Acronis does not want to see the C: drive on this machine. Odd, but, that is the only thing that I can find to determine the problem. It is with Acronis, not the machine. And why it is with Acronis, I don't understand. But, I am not going to lose a lot of sleep over it. I have done all I can think of to troubleshoot and at this point, it is a mystery,and maybe one day I will find the answer. But, for now, I am going to look for another software that will see the C: drive and create my backup.

I really love a good mystery, just, not on my PC.

I follow that! Eventually you may decide to replace the present OS drive and find that all is well. Who knows?!

Meanwhile I have a totally different problem with another type of software that has been reliable now for nearly 10yrs. and now suddenly doesn't work? or works sometimes before needing a full shutdown and power up the next day to work again. That problem is used for editing(marking in, marking out start and end times not available oo many programs) and burning vcd as well as dvd projects with the option for lowering quality for fitting longer length video on blank dvds.

The same problem was seen after a drive wipe, clean install of 7, and fresh download, install, and purchase of the same program's newer version! The pair of optical drives are in perfect working order ruling either of them out. I looked at the blank media as well as with different brands all seeing good blanks and still getting nowhere.

Softwares that go buggy on you! Don't you love it! GGrrrrr....

I have sometimes run into a problem with the Acronis TrueImage Boot Disk that the external drive, on which I store the images, doesn't show up but never with C Drive.

The problem is always resolved if I close and restart the Boot Disk.
