Windows 7: Separate System Image ?

Hi, I have backup settings configured in Backup & Restore to run once a week onto an external hard drive as the recommended/default settings but I wanted to find out if I can create a one-off separate system image and save on the same external hard drive without disrupting the configured backup.

NB I started the process to create a System Image through Backup & Restore in Control Panel but it mentioned that this may clear other images on the drive so I cancelled until I am a little clearer on the matter

If you mean as a separate folder then no. Many of us here remove the image from the scheduled backup and use the create a system image link. There is are tutorials here on how to do it and to keep multiple images. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Thanks, I didn't mean as a separate folder and I will be looking to reset backup again without creating a system image and do that as as seperate thing.

To reconfigure my backups and system image, do I delete all previous backups and system images to date ?

Keep one image. Go into control panel, press the manage space link, then the change settings button and check the keep the latest image radio button. Then you can follow the advice in the tutorial about renaming that image before you take the next. Your file and folder backups you can leave as is if you like.
