    How to get files back?

My girlfriend dropped my laptop on the floor a few days ago and it wouldnt boot up so I had to use the system recovery from the hdd but then it was slow so I got a new hdd and now I need to get my files back.

    Is this possable?
    And how?

Please any help is much appreciated

Was the old hdd just slow, but all files where accessible? Connect the old drive to some system and vopy the files. What's the problem?

    Then all is gone!
Why didn't you save the files prior to do the "back to factory settings"?
Was partition totally corrupted?? Or was win7 just not starting?

think it was totally corrupt and didnt give me the option to save anything as it wouldnt boot up to access anything otherwise I would have saved what I wanted hence the recovery

If the files were particularly important then IF the factory recovery didn't do a full format then you could try
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download
You may need to use the full scan option.
Unlikely but probably worth a try.
