Couldn't you create a manual restore point?
turned it off & on on C. & did create restore point

turned it on & off on the external HD connected via usb

it does not show the HD whezn connected wireless (via airport extreme)

The initial VSS error: Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: VSS was denied access to the root of volume \\?\Volume{4a2209a7-3a1e-11e1-87c0-88532e3b8b47

In REGEDIT this number is also found! Look at the data next to it. That number is exactly the same as at \DosDevices\Q!!

Q is the problem!! Are "restore points" enabled on Q?? Disable system restore on Q!
In disk management remove drive letter Q from that partition. Now reboot (don't know if that's necessary). Now backup should work

no restore points on Q

how do i get to disk management? (i'm really sorry but my knowledge of comuters does not go far beyond turning them on & off )
