    Windows NO LONGER backing up

    Hello,

    Everything worked fine until recent.

I backup wireless to a external HD drive which is connected to an airport extreme.

All of a sudden backup started to fail because:

The network path was either typed incorrectly, does not exist, or th network provider is not currently available. Please try retyping the path or contact your network administrator. (0x800704b3)

However, I CAN access the HD directly from my pc

I then hooked up the HD DIRECTLY to my pc and tried to run backup.

Only now it fails for a diferent reason:
The backup was not successful. The error is: Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up. Please check in the event logs for any relevant errors. (0x81000037).

    - I tried with a different HD
    - I tried a completely new backup
    - i tried switching off McAfee anti virus & firewal
    - no new software was installed on my Pc or any other changes were made to the system

I reeally am lost, especially as there seems to be 2 diferent problems between wireless backup & via direct USB port...?

herebelow 3 error messages that windows gives when trying to back up
to the HD when connected DIRECTLY to the pc:

    1)

The backup was not successful. The error is: Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up. Please check in the event logs for any relevant errors. (0x81000037).

Turn system restore off on all disks. Afterward enable it again with settings you wish
Turn System Restore on or off
No errors? If no errors make a manual restore point (on same dialog)

However, I CAN access the HD directly from my pc
=>most likely this errormessage is not true.

Even backup program is not the problem. Problem is

Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: VSS was denied access to the root of volume \\?\Volume{4a2209a7-3a1e-11e1-87c0-88532e3b8b47}\. Denying administrators from accessing volume roots can cause many unexpected failures, and will prevent VSS from functioning properly. Check security on the volume, and try the operation again.

    Focus on that error

    thanks reply

yr system restore tip not working:
    - wireless back up starts & runs for a while (IE; it actually backs up files), but then get the error saying "path not correct".
    - same goes for "direct" backup (HD connected via usb); it runs for a while & then: Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy

disc Q is to re-install the pc to factory (it's a dell) & is a partition of disc C. but i have not selected this to be backed up.

how do i go about fixing: "" Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: VSS was denied access..." .......?

Did you check "include system image"?
Try the create "system image backup". What partitions does it include?

ok so now all of a sudden i can backup with HD directly connected to pc.
    (without system image)

    wireless it still fails.

i can not backup a system image wireless because the HD is in fat32
(windows does not support this for system image)
it's in fat32 because the airport-extreme does not support ntfs (apple!)
