    ls (hd0,msdos2)/boot/grub/core.img

    returns

    error:not a directory

But if I run ls (hd0,msdos2)/boot/grub/

    I see core.img is listed.

Yes ^ both were found, and core.img only exists at (hd0,msdos2)/boot/grub - nowhere else.

hd0,msdos2 is definitely what is linux partition.

Can you boot using linux tools or linux live cd? If so find the UUID of the linux partition. Is it c44d0292-2966-4537-bbe8-4603b3de2c48 ?
