    Dell DataSafe

    Hello [Inspiron N5010,i5,650GB, 2.53 Ghz,win 7 home premium, MSIE 9].

I use Acronis to image regularly and have made the 2 backup dvd's when I first got the pc.
Dell DataSafe takes up a lot of room[366 MB] and I wonder if it is necessary to keep or should I remove it now that the dvds have been made?.
    Thank you
    Peter

    Data Safe

I read that also;I was wondering what benefit it offers as I made the 2 recovery dvds when I got the pc. I can also use use F8 and Acronis.
But for a measly 336MB I guesss it won't hurt to keep it.

"Unlike previous versions of Dell's system protection software, Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 is able to restore a Dell computer to the original factory-installed configuration without erasing personal files and data." .. sounds like a pretty good option, worth the relatively small space needed. :) recovery discs are good for fixing your boot - did you burn a dvd for windows 7 backup disc or just the recovery disc?

Dell advised that I use the 5 GB partiton to create 2 recovery dvds which I did. I made a rescue disc with Windows and have Acronis to boot into Windows if necessary.
I have those plus the o.s. disc.
I was told the F8 key will also serve to restore the pc to factory.
It seems that we went from not enough recovery options to an abundance of them.
I also wonder if you select recovery but 'with files remaining' that you actually format or not?
For those reading this thread, Dell DataSafe[ver 2.0] is available at the Dell site.

    >The following is what I found at the dell site:
    Weatherman97,

If you have the operating system disks, in case your hard drive failed or
if you made the Windows 7 recovery discs, you can remove Dell Data Safe and still restore or reinstall your operating system without it.

    Welcome to Dell Community!
A post in that thread referred to it as Dell Bloat.
I disagree in that once the dvds are made data safe made be referred to as redundant.

yeah, they say it's good, i have a dell with no dell software in it at all. i used windows to burn both a "windows 7 64-bit backup disk" and a "windows 7 64-bit repair disc" to use if i ever need it.

    back up

I just did not want 663 MB plus of programs if unneeded and I have gotten it corroborated that it now is not need.
I think with the two DVDs, F8 and Acronis I am covered without clutter in the pc. Revo cleared a ton of residual files left behind by Dell's data safe.
