Stuck on System Recovery "Restoring Files"!

Here's some back story to my problem (feel free to skip this):
I've had issues lately where my laptop screen would turn black at random times. The screen just turns off and all I needed to do was hit the power button once, wait, and hit it again to get to the windows locked screen section. I entered my password and I could continue with whatever I was doing. More recently, this fix has turned into a very short term solution and the screen turns off a few seconds after logging back in again. I don't think it's a hardware problem because it can stay on the locked screen section without turning off.

At first, I thought it was overheating, so I used to turn it off and set it aside for a few moments and the problem resolved itself temporarily.

Note: This happened a few months after I bought said laptop, but wasn't able to send it for warranty since I was travelling abroad at the time. It's been over one year now and the warranty has probably expired.

Earlier this week, when I tried turning on the laptop, it was stuck on the section where the windows 7 logo should have appeared (the loading screen). I force powered off and tried again and it worked. After a while, that stopped working as well. Now I can only get as far as the Start-up repair section. I can't even go into safe-mode anymore. The startup repair didn't help at all (it said that it couldn't resolve the problem automatically), so I decided to try a System Restore.

I think my computer has been stuck in the system restore for longer than it should be (over three hours). I can still see the progress bar moving (by progress bar, I don't mean one that shows the completed %, just one that moves from one end to the other and circles back to the front). The action that's is progress currently is "Restoring Files".

    TL;DR

My laptop has been stuck in the system recovery process for almost three hours now. The action that's is progress currently is "Restoring Files". I can still see the progress bar moving (by progress bar, I don't mean one that shows the completed %, just one that moves from one end to the other and circles back to the front).

I'm planning on leaving it overnight, but if the issue isn't resolved, would it be safe for me to power it off in the middle of the process? I'm not too sure, but I think I won't lose any of my personal files since the files being restored are system files, right?

I'm also going to get someone to remove the hard drive from my laptop (so I can keep all my data) and have the laptop sent somewhere to get checked.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Update: It's been almost 6 hours now and it still says that it's "restoring files".

Update 2: I received an error roughly 9 hours after I started the system recovery process. Apparently it wasn't possible since a dll was missing? I had the option of restarting the system recovery, but I opted to turn my laptop off instead.
