Win7 Pro Backup Error Code: 0x8078015B & Other backup problems...
I recently finally registered with sevenforums after viewing for several months and hope that I can help others as much as I have already been helped. I did have a nice detailed post, but foolishly I hit the back button and all was lost.... I said it was foolish!
Anyway here is a summary of Win 7 backup problems:
I have a newly built system with a new primary boot drive (Corsair Neutron GTX 128GB SSD). I have tried several backup attempts and all have failed. Some fails said it was due to problems with shared folders/files so I then changed all permissions and security settings ot allow full access to everything. OK. But still failed. I should mention that the drive I tried to backup to was an external Seagate Free Agent 500GB with plenty of room on it.
I then checked to make sure that the following Windows Services were running - Volume Shadow Copy and the Backup Service. Both were running with no problems. Still backup failed.
OK. I then I wanted to try and create the backup and image on a new internal drive (WD Caviar Black 1TB) formatted NTFS with no OS installed, it is used only for storage. However, when I went to select this drive windows thought this drive had windows installed onit and that it was my boot drive. Both of these assumptions that Windows made are wrong! This 1TB drive never ever had an OS installed and it never was used to boot from!
Don't you just love windows??? Anyway, here are some screencaps of messages and settings.... and thanks for your help!
