Windows 7: Registry is messed up and have no backup

I managed to get my registry screwed up thought I backed it up properly before messing with it but, when I merged the what I thought was the complete, backup everything is worse now. All I have is an upgrade version disc anyone have any ideas how I can completely restore my registry? Thanks! and like an idiot,I turned off my system restore.

Can you boot into Windows 7 at all?

If so you can try a Repair Install

Otherwise, you may have reg hives backup in Windows\System32\config\RegBack you can copy the hives from there into Windows\System32\config.

You would need a boot disc to do that.

It can be done via the command line , which you can get to from the repair options on the install dvd.

But it is easier to use this free boot disc Rescue Kit Free Edition - CNET Download.com

Select Normal Mode > File Transfer Wizard.

The hives are the fellas with no extensions. Easy to do with the paragon rescue kit.

That assumes windows has made the backups - if you have it installed for a while - I expect so.

Depends which ones it has made.

You will probably get away with just replacing the SOFTWARE and SYSTEM if those are all you have which are not 0kb.
