Windows 7: Help to make a Windows PE disc

It is pe - with the standard Windows 7 drivers.

Your difficulty seems to be you need specific drivers for your machine.

I'm having a few problems with this. I go through all the steps, but the finished product doesn't seem to be a PE - it boots to the windows Setup screen and insists that it can't load any drivers.
Might have a look at putting that in as an option when I get the time.

Also, adding drivers is tedious - is there any way to multi-select drivers to be added, instead of doing each one individually?

Back here again to post. I checked the string and I made a mistake, I pasted:

oscdimg -n -bc:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\BOOT\ETFSBOOT.com C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\BOOT C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\sources\BOOTx86.iso

While it should have been,

oscdimg -n -bc:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\BOOT\ETFSBOOT.com C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\sources\BOOTx86.iso

I was able to burn it and when i checked the cd contents, there it was, it contained the 'bootmgr'. please see image attached.

[IMG]http://s8.**************/et9qsocld/cd_contents_ver2_correct_string.jpg[/IMG]

I booted to cd but there was an error. It first went to the 'Windows Boot Manager' asking me to select a setup which was only Windows setup [EMS Enabled]. Clicking at gave me a

Windows Boot Manager' boot error..something..etc.
Status: 0x000000f

I repeated it but it was the same.

Any ideas?

If you just want a simple iso with bios boot support, the command should be

oscdimg -n -o -m -b"C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO\BOOT\ETFSBOOT.COM" "C:\PARAGONPEv2\ISO" "C:\PARAGON.iso"
Hi SIW2,

Right - but I have added them, unless I am missing one.... I have added the RAID driver and the network driver.

The problem is that it goes through the normal boot sequence, and then proceeds exactly as if I had inserted a standard windows 7 install disc - it says "Setup is starting", and makes you click Install, as if you are about to do a fresh install of Windows 7. I have used other PE discs, and never run into anything like this, even if drivers were missing..?

Default shell is recenv.exe.

Don't know why setup.exe is launching as the shell in your build.

Very odd.

What bit version are you running it on ?

I have only tested it on Windows 7 64 bit.

Have a look in PARAGONPEv2\iso\sources - the adjusted bootx86.wim is in there.

You can look inside it with 7zip.

in system32 there should be winpeshl.ini

If it isn't there - then it is not being added while the wim is mounted.

I also am using Windows 7 Professional x64 to build it. One difference that might be relevant is that I have the PARAGONPEv2 folder extracted to my desktop instead of to the C:\ root.

When I open the wim file inside Sources, I see 3 folders: "1", "2", and "[Files]", as well as a file called "[1].xml". If I open the folder "1" and look inside windows\System32, I am able to find a winpeshl.ini file, and it contains the following data:
Code:
[LaunchApps]
"X:\Windows\System32\DISMGUIx86.EXE LOAD PESTART.INI"

"X:\Windows\System32\SIW2x86.exe"
When I look inside the "2" folder, there is no winpeshl.ini inside windows\System32. Does that help you figure out what has gone wrong?

I redid it all and I was able to finish the making of the iso file and was able to burn it via the pecreator. I rebooted to cd and it seems to be like the recovery cd I made for Windows 7. Anyway I continued to boot using it but I could not see any Paragon app there. It was the same as my recovery cd. I also have a dilemma using my recovery cd as it does not see my Windows backup (vhd file) I have in my Seagate portable drive. My recovery cd only saw my portable drive when it was to load driver but not when it was looking for drives with my backup. That was the reason I opted to use WinPE.

I'll download the new version thanks very much SIW2. You really have helped me so much here thanks really. Other than that might there be anything we can do?

Hi,

Am back here to report. I used the PARAGONPEv3.zip and rebooted to cd. It went well and I was to boot and see the same image as posted previously. I tested all the selectives in the menu and went well but could not launch "Paragon1" or "Paragon2". Please see image attached (I borrowed your image as I can't take an screenshot while using the winpe cd -- can that be added in the selection, I mean snipping tool -- not important now )

It was all okay except that. Well I still have the same issue with the recovery function of Windows as it cannot see my 'Windows backup - vhd file' and it's location. But the "Explorer" shows all very well. Including the Paragon trial backup I made and stored in the Seagate portable. But if I can launch Paragon and can backup/restore from there. I do not need the Windows 7 recovery option.

Can you check if I selected something wrong in the Paragon folder? Please see attached image of,

C:\Program Files\Paragon Software\Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 Suite\program
C:\Program Files\Paragon Software\Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 Suite\program2

[img]http://s9.**************/m3n2pk37v/Picture1.jpg[/img]

I selected the "launcher"(highligthed in yellow) in 'program2'. There isn't any launcher in 'program' folder.

Other than that I believe this is progressing okay. Thank you.

Will wait for your reply.

Regards

I just repeated the whole procedure just to make sure I did was right but I still cannot launch Paragon. Kindly see image of the ParagonPEv3 when booted to cd. The menu has "Paragon1" and "Paragon2" but I cannot launch the app. The explorer there shows the Seagate portable which contains the Paragon Backup.

New version of whole program will be posted shortly - RK - you won't need the whole program, just use the above instead of the one you already have.
Works perfectly, thank you!
BTW, I also tried v3 just for fun, and couldn't add drivers. Some error about DISM being unable to use a Vista kernel.
