It should go back to Vista. Open your recovery partition and see what it says.

Depending on what you used to install Windows7, there may be ways to reinstall Windows7 too. What you need is a valid Win7 product key.

Well my problem is that my computer gets stuck "configuring updates" during startup so I just wanted to do a system recovery to start my computer off fresh. And I bought my computer close enough to the release date of windows 7 that Microsoft gave me the free upgrade. But I don't remember where I left the disc and I don't want to have to go back to windows vista.

You can download and burn a Windows7 SP1 .iso from here. The problem is that we are not sure whether the product key on your COA sticker will activate that because the PC was originally Vista. You might try with the key that your current Win7 upgrade has. You find that with a keyfinder - e.g. Jelly Bean.
