    recovery without windows

Windows is not starting on my laptop and I used restore but that didnt help. I am trying to recover the computer and go back to factory settings and I tried everything: F8 F9 F10 F10Alt and I cannot find an option to recover without an image or CD. i am trying the recovery on VAIO Care but it doesnt work in safe mode. Without safe mode Windows shuts down randomly. My computer is VAIO Vpcea21fd and windows 7. What can I do? I think I have a virus, Im writing this from my phone. Thanks!

Hello littleflower and welcome to Seven Forums.

I have a Vaio VPCEB47GM. If your computer has an ASSIST button:
    1. With the computer OFF, press the ASSIST button to launch Vaio Cae Rescue
    2. Click Start Recovery Wizard
    3. Select Tools and click Start Advanced Recovery Wizard
    4. Follow the on screen prompts to restore your Vaio to factory specs

If your computer does NOT have an ASSIST button:
    1. Turn the computer on and immediately start clicking (and keep clicking) the F10 key
    2. If the Edit Boot Options screen appears, simply click Enter
    3. Select Start Recovery Wizard
    4. Select Tools and click Start Advanced Recovery Wizard
    5. Follow the on screen prompts to restore your Vaio to factory specs

    If you created Recovery Disks:
    1. Make sure your Vaio is set to boot from CD/DVD optical drive as first choice
    2. With computer ON, insert Disk #1, shutdown computer, restart and let computer boot from Disk #1
    3. Windows Boot Manager screen will display
    4. Use up/down arrow keys to select Start Vaio Care Rescue and click Enter
    5. Select Start Recovery Wizard
    6. Select Tools and click Start Advanced Recovery Wizard
    7. Follow on screen instructions including when to insert Disk #2, #3, etc

If none of this works for you, one of the Forum experts prepared these troubleshooting guides.

Or you could use this opportunity to clean install Windows 7 and eliminate the factory bloatware that slows a computer down. I did this to my Vaio and it made a big difference.

Hi, thanks for the reply! When I hit the "assist" button, it just goes to Windows but does nothing else... then Windows turns off again. The same thing happens with F10 and Enter (I do get the Edit Boot Options though). Do you know if there's another way to get to the Recovery Wizard? where is it? can it be found in the Safe Mode?

I'll take a look at the article too! thanks again for you help!
