I purchased a Seagate Backup Plus to backup 2 Win 7 computers. I chose to let Windows decide what to backup. After completing backup of both computers I see computer files under the computer names but only 1 backup system image. Is the image the same on both computers or did the second computer backup overwrite the first? Not sure where to go from here. Thanks
Probably overwrote it id guess, whenever i do a system backup i rename the file to something different so when i do another i sits alongside not over the top, all win 7 system images are a folder called "WindowsImageBackup" i usually add a few words to the end so i know which is which
Generally I would say the simplest way to system image multiple PCs using a single HDD is to create partitions, each dedicated to a particular PC. Using Windows imaging you should be using the manual "Create a System" on the left of the Backup and Restore then select the Partition associated with the particular PC. As a memory aid it may be useful to label the partition with the name of the particular PC.
I use Windows imaging and free Macrium Reflect for extra security. You can create multiple images using Windows imaging by renaming WindowsImageBack then renaming it back again before an image restore but I would still stick to one partition for PC-1 and a second partition for PC-2. One of the advantages of Macrium Reflect is that you can create multiple images for say PC-1 on partition 1 without the renaming hassle.
If you are prepared to only use Macrium Reflect then partitioning isn't really necessary. You would simply create two folders eg. PC-1, PC-2.
