Does anyone know why this PC would create 5 recovery discs when I use its option to create recovery media?
5 discs?
I thought that to restore the PC to factory condition would just take a single disc...so I'm just wondering exactly what is being put on 5 blank dvds?

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB47GM. It used 4 DVDs. When I bought my Vaio it already had almost 17GB of installed "stuff". The operating system, trial products of anti-virus suites, Microsoft Office, Vaio Care Diagnostic tools, etc. I suspect that your computer had even more "stuff" factory installed. :)
Oh yeah...fair point...all the Office stuff etc...gotcha.
So I am planning a reinstall this weekend...to absolute factory condition...so I'll be prompted to use those discs right?
If you have a choice between the disks or the hidden recovery partition, I'd use the partition. I've seen too many cases where one disk failed to burn properly making the entire set useless. I'm not sure how the newer Sony machines are configured but somewheres in your start menu you probably have something called Vaio Care or Vaio Control Panel or something similar. One of those options should access the Vaio Recovery Wizard (or perhaps it's called something else now.) You'd select the option to restore the computer to factory specs and follow the prompts. Should take about 30 minutes or so and your computer will be like it was the day you brought it home. If you received a Quick Start Guide with your machine it should give the basics of how to restore using the disks or the recovery partition.
Ok good point...thanks for that heads up...and you're right...there is an option for that without having to use recovery discs.

The first is how to remove unnecessary bloatware and the second is a complete clean reinstall for optimum performance. If you have any questions down the road, give a shout.
