Windows 7: Saving a disk image to an external USB3 drive?

I'm playing around with Macrium right now.

How do I access the image (on ext. USB3 drive) to restore Windows if, lets say I replace a bad C drive? Do I also need to create rescue media and boot from it to restore Windows?
I have the Disk Partition Image saved to my external drive.

Assuming you have the driver issue sorted.
1) To replace a failed HDD. Make sure the new HDD is at least the size of the original imaged HDD (I'm not talking about image size). Take the new HDD out of its anti static bag, physically install it then simply do an image restore. That's it!
2) Yes you always need an image restore boot CD (or USB). For Windows inbuilt imaging you need to make a System Repair CD. Everyone should always have one of these. The create option is in the Backup & Restore screen.
For Macrium the Macrium boot pe CD would be the preferred option.
You only need to create the rescue CD once (or make 2 in case one is faulty).

So you basically take the CD that was made by Macrium, boot from it and use whatever software that is there to restore Windows to the way it was when the image was made?
Sounds simple enough. I'll try it tomorrow. Had to go to a friends house and secure their wireless router.
