    Bootable Thumbdrive backups

I gave my son my 32Gig Thumbdrive to make recovery device for his new HP machine....

I tried on my Mac, I also tried with Ghost, but I cannot make a good disk image that I will be able to use later.

    Any advice?

    Hi,

I recommend trying Macrium Reflect - its recommend and used here extensively.

Download this WinPE ISO, unzip it, and write it to a CD/DVD or separate USB thumb-drive. Use it to create the image to the 32GB USB you purchased for your son.

This WinPE cannot reside on the same 32GB thumb drive which will hold the Macrium image.

Read this for more info on Macrium:

You need to have TWO USB drives -- one containing Winpe (which you use to boot) and once booted into MR, insert the OTHER USB drive and write the image to that.

    Is this what you're doing?

Mark, does it matter how the USB thumb drive is formatted? i.e. FAT32 vs. NTFS? is one better than the other when it comes to storing MR images in the way JosesMorgue is looking to do?

No, I have a bootable thumbdrive that want to make an image of. I want to store the image of the thumbdrive on the harddrive, not make an image of a harddrive onto a thumbdrive.
