Help! 1286 Backup.zip files-low on disk space error

I have 1286 Backup.zip files and assume they are Win 7 backups? Is it safe to delete them and why are there so many? Do I have a setting turned on that I don't need? I am getting "low on disk space" messages now and can't quite figure it out?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Thanks for the reply. What/where should I look to see what is causing the backups to run so often? Sorry for the lack of experience with this issue but this has me perplexed...
