Aomei Backuper FREE New Version

The download page is not as clear as it might be:

There is new version v1.1

That is still only about 14mb and is the one on the left.

To make it easier, direct link here:

Download AOMEI Data BackuperBuilt-in Windows PE Bootable Disc Builder(Size: 14MB)

If you don't know it already, it is an excellent free disk/partition imaging /file backup program. It also does scheduling and incremental/differential.

If you running Windows 7/8, it can make bootable winpe recovery media without needing to download WAIK/WADK or anything else.

For those running earlier operating systems, you cannot create winpe bootable media in that way.

Therefore they have released Linux based recovery media for those users.

You can d/l the Linux based recovery disk here:

Download AOMEI Linux Bootable Disc

You need to put that in Aoemei Backuper installation directory so it can burn it for you - or just burn it using any iso image burner you may have.

Or you can d/l both the Aomei Backuper v1.1 and the Linux based recovery media here:

I tried and and thought it looked good at first. The interface is pretty plain and simple - but then why shouldn't it be? I was surprised how quickly it backed up my SSD boot drive, but when I checked CPU usage I saw it was using all 8 cores of my i7 CPU. I wonder how many other backup programs are multi-threaded like this one.

My problem is you cannot restore selected files from a backup once it is complete. This is a requirement for me since the bulk of my use of backup files is to retrieve files that somehow got lost or damaged. So for now I'm sticking with Paragon backup.

Paragon stuff is good.

I hadn't realised aomei didn't do selective file restore.

You can't have everything - it is a freebie.

As far as I know you can't schedule the backup. Selective file restore is possible

Image file checker and explorer = Check data integrity of image file to ensure the backups can be restored successfully. Mount image files to a virtual partition so that you can browse the contents of the backups in Windows Explorer.

It does everything - schedule is here - nice and easy - you can select daily, weekly, monthly, or your own schedule.

Thanks Si. I'm just trying it out. I had problems with the WinPE disk on the previous version but this one seems to be working OK.
