I know you said you formatted F: but it still has quite a bit of data on it??? If any of these are system files then you would have issues creating an image on it.
So what is still on F: ?
The other thing to check is to temporarily disconnect F: and see if you can still boot.

I was trying to make an backup image to the "F" drive using the Windows 7 own backup program.
But it wont let me!
I have managed to use Acronis to backup the "C" drive onto "F" the trouble is, I think that I will have to backup the "C" and the "E" partitions together using Acronis to be able to get a complete recovery if my hard drive fails.
The "E" partition was put onto my my disk by the people who manufactured my computer. I think that it is some sort of recovery partition.
I might just format the C and E drives and reinstall everything

If you are using the built in MS image backup under maintenance you have ti image it to an external drive or DVD/Blue Ray .
You can use Windows inbuilt imaging (use "Create a system image" button) and store the image on any non system partition. This can be another internal HDD or even another partition on your OS drive. You do not need to use an external HDD. But clearly you need sufficient storage space (as you have) and no system files on the partition you are saving your image to. This is a fact.
You have not commented on the questions I asked in my previous post.
Windows backup, in my opinion, isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, you never know what its doing. I'd use this: Imaging with free Macrium
You can Make a System image which will include all drives/partition in the w7 system and will restore to all drives. Also download the WinPE, it will be needed if you restore the image.
I'm not sure Macrium will allow you to store an image on a partition containing system files. If it does then I'd at least like an alert because I think you're asking for trouble.
PS: Macrium is a great program and I use it plus the "blunt instrument".
I think this is easy to fix. Shrink the current partition on that drive and make a second partition and image to that.
