Right. After you get set up and comfortable doing your imaging/restores by booting to the imaging software CD/DVD/Stick, remember to set sysprep to shutdown upon completion. I think you misread something about the sysprep process you want to do. It should always be set to shut down when tranferring a system, whether via image or HD transfer.
You got into trouble somehow by being in Windows and breaking something. When you do "cold" imaging/restores you can't break Windows.
And it keeps your mind concentrated on that specific task. Works that way for me anyway.
