How to clone a drive - When win images will not work?

I'm trying to upgrade it to a 256gb SSD from a 64gb SSD on a small Foxconn. The windows image will not work. I setup the unit with a bootable USB thumb drive without any problems and then recently created an image with from the 64gb drive, popped in the 256 SSD and booted from the same USb I used to setup the box. Windows setup software said the image will not work and that I need to boot from a CD to use this image...

Is there an easy way to image the new drive without having to go through the hassle of navigating a windows problem...maybe something that simply lets me swap the date over a USB cable?

Can it do it with the new drive attached with a USB cable?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this? Are you making your image to a flash drive? Try using a USB connected ext HDD. It definitely should work.
I've nothing against Macrium by the way. I use it and Windows inbuilt imaging.
