windows restore running for 9 hours.still not completed-advise please

    Hi all
I got a trojan on my PC , did a full scan with malware bytes and it found some files which where deleted.
the damage done was quite extensive , many directories had access denied , there was a strange user account which I removed , and many directories were shared , and some directories where replicated up to 20 times , my drive space decrease by about 100 gig ....
after some trying to fix the problems manually I decided to do a system restore point back to a week ago.
It has now been running for 9 hours , the first 5 hours was ' restore initializing ' , then for the last 4 hours its: ' restoring the registry ' , the hard drive light is constantly flashing.

    - windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

at this point I'm not sure what to do , any advise please
    thanks

I'm not sure if System Restore will remove all the malware. I could be wrong but I think it only puts important system files back the way they were. If prior to your problem, you created a system image, you can restore the image which should take care of it. Otherwise you may need to do a system recover and put it back to the factory image. But wait till you hear from some of the other member. If you need to do a recovery to factory image, I hope you can backup your important files.

I did a bit of googling and found I wasnt the only one with the problem , so I pushed the reset button and the pc booted to a black screen , I then booted of the win 7 cd and restored back to a week ago , system then rebooted , did a long file check and its back up , but like you said , it only 'fixed' the system files , Ive still got some multiple directory structures and a lot of 'shared ' directories , but at least the pc is back up and working , Im going to try and go through the directories and 'clean' up. I would rather clean the system manualy than re install as I have a lot of apps and docs that I would have to re install and configure.
Once I got everything sorted I want to find a good free mirror / ghost app to mirror the system drive to another drive , but do it manually once a week or so.
    thanks
