kaspersky rescue disk is an operating system with the antivirus stuff on it. Most antivirus companies have such a thing. It works like this:

    1. Boot from CD/DVD
    2. Most of the time the antivirus stuff asks to download new virus signatures. So it updates its virus database
    3. Scan starts and searches for virusses and cleans them.
Don't expect anti4us or anti-malware stuff to remove all dangerous stuff! Don't expect that all is working fine afterwards.

It fixes the virusses just like normally in win7. Only difference is:
    • You boot from DVD so no code from harddisk runs. So no virus can be active. A virus can fool the virusscanner otherwise.
    • If win7 is full of virusses and cannot boot you have to boot from DVD to access the disk.
Such anti4us software from DVD are called "offline virusscanners". They are run outside the OS the be checked.

It removes the virus (if it can). Hopefully it does it the correct way... if so.... win7 boots normal

Yes it only fixes the virusses just like the virusscanner does now. But only then without win7 running. You can boot normally without issues. Unless it cures the problem incorrect. But they always say which files are cured and they have files in quarentine.

And you can always go back in time using System Restore option two.

    But it's just theorectically!!

    • most of time no virus is found
    • virus are cured the way it should
Never had any problem with offline virusscanners. Sometimes they can't fix it, or don't find the virus. But unbootable.... never

Yes of course. But I hope the rescue DVD has drivers for your network card so it can access the internet to update the latest virus information. Just run it and see how it works.
