Unable to choose where to backup

I'm trying to setup Backup for this Wi-Fi laptop. When I click on Setup Backup the Backup Destination shows only a DVD RW drive. I want to use a WD MyBook 3.0 external hard drive USB wired to a Win XP desktop and which displays as a Drive on that PC.
    Any solutions or ideas? Thanks

You should be able to connect the WD external hard drive to your laptop.

Once your laptop sees the external hard drive, go to the control panel and select "Backup and Restore".

On the left side to that screen you will see "Create a system disc". Click on that and follow the prompts".

You will also want to create a Repair disc and test it.

    Hope this helps.

As I think suggested above, I would image using a direct USB connection to your laptop. When doing an image restore make sure you have the USB 3 drivers available to load at restore time if required. If you are using Windows 7 inbuilt imaging you will need to manually install the drivers after booting from a system repair CD. Of course if you only have USB 2 ports on the laptop it doesn't matter.
Many other imaging programs also won't automatically load USB 3 drivers from a restore CD.
