Please help me - Macrium failed to restore my PC to be useable again!
Hi, I have used Macrium (free) in the past to back up my C drive and have created a couple of disk images which have in the past successfully restored in the event of a crisis.
Recently my PC started doing a few funny things (sleep results in fan constantly going, occasionally can't awake from sleep but fan still goes etc). I played around with the power settings today and also changed the BIOS setting from Auto to S3 (save to RAM). When I rebooted the "Windows starting" splash screen came on but when it went, just a blank black screen with a mouse pointer (normal size for the resolution I'm using, implying the graphics card was supporting the resolution I normally use). This happened repeatedly and I was unable to get past it to the pale blue login screen by any means. But I can log in as normal if I boot through Safe Mode (and am posting this via Safe Mode with networking).
I restored my operating system disk today using Macrium, then booted up normally. To my dismay, after "Windows starting".....still a black screen with nothing but a mouse pointer that I can move around. Control+alt+del and Windows key + P do nothing. Where have I gone wrong? I'm pretty sure that my other BIOS settings (e.g. AHCI rather than IDE - I'm using an SSD) are unchanged. Thanks for advice.
BTW I am using a desktop system, i7 six core processor, two Nvidia 210 graphics cards, 24GB RAM and Win 7 pro.
